CABEI supports Costa Rica's efforts to guarantee quality healthcare services to more than 1.2 million children

San Jose, September 9, 2024.- With the objective of strengthening the healthcare capacity and services at the National Children's Hospital, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) will evaluate the request for financing made by the Government of the Republic of Costa Rica for the development of the second and third stages of the "Critical Care Tower Project", known as the "Tower of Hope".

The request for financial support was made personally by the President of the Republic, Mr. Rodrigo Chaves, through a letter of request delivered to CABEI's country manager in Costa Rica, Alvaro Alfaro, during a visit to the medical center as part of the Children's Day celebrations, and with the presence of close to 50 children who, upon hearing the news, expressed their joy and excitement.

This emblematic project is designed to guarantee healthcare services to 1.2 million children under the age of 15. The medical center currently serves an average of 400,000 patients per year and receives more than 150,000 emergency consultations, so the new tower will not only expand the hospital with a specialized critical care building but will also free up space in the main building to improve key areas such as outpatient surgery, bed capacity, and modernization of services.

CABEI Country Manager for Costa Rica, Álvaro Alfaro, commented, "Children's health is a priority for CABEI, and we believe this project has the potential to significantly transform pediatric care in the country. We are proud to support initiatives such as this, which will improve conditions for the most vulnerable and guarantee a healthy future for the next generations. We look forward to presenting it to our Board of Directors for their vote in the coming months and confirming the good news.

The expected benefits include: a sustainable building with state-of-the-art medical and technological equipment, expanded hospital coverage with greater capacity to attend complex pediatric emergencies such as severe trauma, severe burns, and other critical conditions, greater capacity for diagnoses and comprehensive treatment of pediatric and adolescent pathologies, spaces designed to integrate the family in the patient's recovery process, among others.

CABEI continues to demonstrate its commitment to the social welfare and sustainable development of the region by supporting projects that contribute to improving the quality of life of future generations.
