'Our vision for the Sri Lankan defence sector is to be a technologically advanced and human-centric force capable of safeguarding our nation's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national interests. To achieve this vision, we must embark on a comprehensive programme of holistic defence sector reforms'.
Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) made these remarks while addressing the student officers of the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) at Sapugaskanda today (Dec 10).
'Our motherland is uniquely positioned at the crossroads of major maritime trade routes. This strategic location, while offering immense economic opportunities, also presents significant security challenges.
We must be prepared to address a wide range of threats, from terrorism and insurgency to maritime piracy and natural disasters'. Defence Secretary further stated.
The Commandant of DSCSC, Major General Kapila Dolage, received the Defence Secretary and accompanied him to the Maroon Hall to address the graduands of Course No. 18.
AVM Thuyacontha (Retd) shared his precious knowledge and enlightened the young career officers of Sri Lankan and foreign armed forces who will be completing their year-long Staff Course curriculum.
At the end of the day's session, mementoes were also exchanged to mark the occasion.
