Minister Tajani participates in the celebrations for the 95th anniversary of the Lateran Treaty and 37th anniversary of the Concordat Amendment Agreement

Italy's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, took part today in the celebrations for the 95th anniversary of the Lateran Treaty and the 40th anniversary of the Agreement amending the Concordat held at Palazzo Borromeo, seat of the Italian Embassy to the Holy See, in the presence of the Italy's President of the Republic and the Prime Minister, as well as the highest offices of the Italian State and the Holy See.

"The constant dialogue between Italy and the Holy See is of fundamental importance for the Italian Government, including in its foreign policy action", the Deputy Prime Minister commented. "During the Italian G7 Presidency, we intend to strengthen cooperation on a number of international issues, starting with the most topical ones, from the Middle East to Ukraine, from Africa to migration issues" he added.

Tajani also recalled the special attention Italy devotes to protecting freedom of religion and religious minorities, especially those in particularly unstable contexts. He pointed out how "Italy is committed to protecting Christians and Christian places of worship in the Middle East, where it is crucial to not fall into the trap of a religious war between the Arab world and the Western world, which is what Hamas would like".

The head of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Secretary for Relations with States of the Holy See hold regular six-monthly meetings, the last of which took place in the middle of last December. In anticipation of the 2025 Jubilee, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Holy See have long been working together to ensure the success of the event, including through a special agreement between the Ministry and the Dicastery for Evangelisation signed on 14 December 2023.
