BPD Investigating Fatal Vehicle Crash on Owyhee St

On July 2, 2024, shortly after 10 pm, Boise Fire and Boise Police officers responded to a single vehicle injury crash near the intersection of S Owyhee St. and W Malad St. When first responders arrived on scene, life-saving care was provided to the injured adult female driver and the injured adult male passenger. Both occupants of the vehicle were transported to local hospitals, where the female driver passed away from her injuries. The male passenger remains in the hospital in critical condition.
Evidence indicates the driver was traveling southbound on Owyhee St. at a high rate of speed when she lost control of the vehicle and hit the median between Malad St. and Owyhee St. head on. The car then caught fire. Prior to first responders' arrival, bystanders extricated the male passenger from the car. Upon arrival, Boise Firefighters extricated the female driver while extinguishing the fire. BPD's Crash Reconstruction Team and detectives responded to investigate the crash. S Owyhee St. and W Malad St. remain closed as they work to investigate the crash and clear the scene. The investigation is ongoing. The identity of the victim will be released by the Ada County Coroner's Office pending notification of next of kin.
