On the 6th of April, the spirit and prowess of Mount Vernon were on full display, not just through the victories of the Mount Vernon Department of Recreation Boxing Club but also in the commendable performances of the Sandbox Boxing Club athletes. Both clubs, hailing from the same vibrant community, showcased the depth of boxing talent in Mount Vernon in a tournament that felt less like a competition and more like a communal celebration of the city's rich boxing culture. Arturo Orozco, 16 years old, stood at the forefront of this celebration, securing the 125lb Junior Novice Male Championship in a nail-biting split decision against Tazzaun Johnson of the Sandbox Boxing Club. This bout was not just a test of skill but a display of the indomitable Mount Vernon spirit, with both boxers exemplifying the excellence that their city breeds. Orozco's victory, hard-earned and well-fought, was a testament to the dedication instilled in the athletes by both clubs. In another display of Mount Vernon's boxing acumen, Aaron Orozco, 13 years old, of the Mount Vernon Department of Recreation Boxing Club took on Aiden Buret of the Sandbox Boxing Club in the 101lb Intermediate Novice Male Championship. Aaron's victory by unanimous decision was a masterclass in determination and technique, showcasing the high caliber of training and spirit that defines Mount Vernon's boxing scene. Both boxers, through their dedication and sportsmanship, painted a vivid picture of their city's passion for boxing. The tournament also saw Jayden Geronimo, 17 years old, from the Mount Vernon Department of Recreation Boxing Club advance to the finals in the 119lb Junior Novice Male Championship with a unanimous decision over Juan Mejia of YW Boxing.
