Interactive children’s storytelling comes to Cherokee Nation Anna Mitchell Cultural & Welcome Center

VINITA, Okla. - Enjoy an interactive day of immersive children's storytelling July 27 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Cherokee Nation Anna Mitchell Cultural & Welcome Center.

Children of all ages are invited to gather for "Ours to Tell: Cherokee Children's Stories" at the 2023 Tribal Destination of the Year. The special event will feature performances throughout the day from celebrated Cherokee storytellers including Cherokee National Treasure Robert Lewis and Cherokee Nation citizens Traci Sorell and Candice Byrd Boney.

"We are always trying to find new, exciting ways to tell our stories, especially to the next generation," said Carrie Lind, culture and tourism coordinator. "We're tailoring our efforts specifically to children with this event and are excited to see these Cherokee stories shared in such an engaging, entertaining and immersive way."

Sorell will also premiere her newest children's book "Clack, Clack! Smack! A Cherokee Stickball Story." She will be accompanied by a member of the Wudeligv (Woo-day-Lee-guh) stickball team with authentic stickball equipment for a show-and-tell experience.

Story-themed activities will be offered throughout the day to provide hands-on experiences and promote a thorough understanding of the stories.

The Cherokee Nation Anna Mitchell Cultural & Welcome Center offers an exhibit gallery, a grab-and-go café with Native-inspired cuisine, a gift shop, and flexible space for cultural classes and events. It is open to the public seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located at 953 E. Illinois Ave.
