Mosquito Spraying Schedule Expanded to 14 Consecutive Days

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX - In response to the recent influx of mosquitoes following substantial rain events, the City of Corpus Christi is taking proactive measures to address the increased mosquito population. The combination of stagnant water and high grass has created ideal breeding conditions for mosquitoes, prompting the City's Vector Control to intensify its mitigation efforts.

Vector Control has planned a 14-day mosquito spraying and treatment operation across the entire city from Calallen to the Island. The operation began on Monday, July 29, and will end on Sunday, August 11.

To reduce mosquito larvae, Vector Control places larvicide tablets in stagnant water areas in the afternoon and then sprays for adult mosquitoes in the evening. If the mosquito population remains elevated, the City will continue these efforts.

Below is the schedule from Monday, July 29, to Sunday, August 11.

See the Mosquito Spray Route Map below.

Larviciding, the control of mosquito larvae before they become adults, is conducted from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Adulticiding (spraying), the control of adult mosquitos that are nuisances, is conducted during evening hours from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

Vector Control program reminds the public to keep themselves safe and help by caring for their property by ensuring grass and shrubs are properly trimmed. Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water, so help reduce mosquito breeding grounds by draining any standing water, including water that collects in empty cans, tires, buckets, clogged rain gutters, and saucers under potted plants.

Vector Control typically sprays at night when traffic conditions are minimal. Due to State and Federal Mandates, Vector Control cannot spray in areas near a body of water when wind conditions are not optimal or in proximity to individuals who are outdoors.

The Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District recommends following the 5 Ds of Defense:

DEET - If you will be outside - use insect repellent containing DEET

DRESS - Dress in long sleeves and pants when you're outside.

DAWN, DAYTIME, and DUSK-Mosquitoes are most active at dawn, daytime, and dusk. Avoid being outside during these times of the day.

DRAIN - Curb mosquito breeding areas by draining standing water.

DOCTOR - Consult your physician if you feel sick after being bitten.

Please call 311 to report abandoned property, high grass, or standing water.
