AVMA to host first Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Wellbeing Summit

(SCHAUMBURG, Illinois) August 26, 2024-The American Veterinary Medical Association invites registration for the veterinary profession's first-ever Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Wellbeing Summit, to be held November 7-9, 2024 in Atlanta.

"The summit will be a gathering of a community united by the shared goal of fostering environments where creativity, wellbeing, and collaboration flourish," said Dr. Latonia Craig, the AVMA's Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer. "Attendees can look forward to a dynamic and interactive program that will engage, educate, and inspire."

The summit is presented in partnership with the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) and builds on the successes of Journey for Teams and other DEI and wellbeing initiatives.

In addition to keynote addresses by Bertice Berry, PhD, author and sociologist; Chef Brave Heart, entrepreneur and private chef; and Adam "Smiley" Poswolsky, author and workplace expert, the summit will include small breakout sessions, networking opportunities, receptions, and other activities.

"Attendees will come away with greater understanding of how DEI and wellbeing intersect, and actionable ways to empower and support veterinary professionals and the workplaces where we operate," Dr. Craig said.

"On behalf of the AVMA, I extend our sincere thanks to our sponsors for their generosity and partnership in our profession's shared DEI journey," said Dr. Sandra Faeh, AVMA President.

The sponsors are Zoetis (platinum partner); Boehringer Ingelheim and CareCredit (premier partners); Hill's and Mars Veterinary Health (signature partners); NAVC, American Veterinary Medical Foundation, AVMA LIFE Trust and AVMA PLIT (community partners), and Marshall Recruiting Consortium and Veterinary Medical Association Executives (educational partners).
