Spring Shores Marina to Close by End of August; Boat Ramp Repair Project Cuts Short Boating Season at Lucky Peak

The water level at Lucky Peak Lake will begin to drop on Monday, July 22, 2024, with the rapidly reducing pool closing most of Spring Shores Marina by the first week of August and ending all boating from the unit on August 29^th.

Drawing the water down will allow the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to begin scheduled repairs of the Turner Gulch boat ramp on September 1^st. The project will increase the safety of the 70-year-old ramp, fixing hazardous sections and installing erosion controls, but will cut short the lake's boating season by six weeks.

USACE operates Lucky Peak Dam, and other recreational features around the lake, while Lucky Peak State Park operates the marina, which features 298 boat slips, a fuel dock, parking, and two launch ramps.

Turner ramp repairs are planned to begin when the lake level drops 125 feet from the current, full-pool level. As scheduled, the repairs will run from September to November 1^st, when USACE anticipates starting to refill the lake.

Some key dates (as currently scheduled) and Spring Shores impacts:

• July 22^nd - Lake drawdown begins.
• August 1^st - Boats in shallow slips recommended to be pulled from marina; lake down 15 feet.
• August 3^rd - Minimal level for marina, all boats should be pulled; lake down 20 feet.
• August 5^th - Fuel dock closes; lake down 26 feet.
• August 8^th - East Boat Ramp closes; lake down 36 feet.
• August 29^th - West Boat Ramp closes; lake down 110 feet.

"The drawdown will be quick, but those wanting to get the most boating in before the ramps close will have most of August," said Surat Nicol, manager of Lucky Peak State Park. "Please check our website and look for signs at the ramps for the latest information in case the schedule changes."
