David Heckel succeeds Peter Carstens as Vice President of Group Tax

After many years as Head of Tax, Peter Carstens is handing over the responsibility for the Group Tax division of the Otto Group to current department head David Heckel, effective October 1, 2024.

David Heckel will take on the role of Vice President Group Tax, overseeing the tax affairs of the Otto Group, a leading trading and services company. He has been with the Otto Group for eight years and currently leads the Corporate Tax department, where he and his team manage the tax consulting for domestic group companies.

David Heckel's professional career began in 2005 after earning his degree in Business Law at KPMG AG, where he focused on general corporate taxation as well as process and tax reporting consulting for both national and international clients.

In 2016, the Otto Group recruited David for the Group Tax division, and by the end of 2020, he took on the role of Corporate Tax Principal, overseeing the technical management of the Corporate Tax area. In this capacity, he is responsible for tax consulting for domestic group companies, managing tax declaration requirements, and addressing challenges arising from the digital tax agenda.

David Heckel will take over his responsibilities from Peter Carstens, who will conclude his long-standing service with the Otto Group at his own request in mid-2025, in accordance with a long-term agreement. Until then, he will continue to support his colleagues in an advisory capacity.
