The Fargo Police Department (FPD) is currently investigating car break-ins that occurred overnight, affecting nearly 100 vehicles throughout the city. Residents are urged to check their vehicles immediately for any signs of tampering or theft and report any incidents to law enforcement. Due to the large number of cases, the FPD is encouraging individuals to call in reports at 701.451.7660 rather than using the online reporting system to ensure timely processing and assistance.

Chief of Police Dave Zibolski emphasized the importance of community awareness during this time. "We take these crimes very seriously and are actively working to identify and apprehend those responsible. It's essential that anyone who has been affected report the crime as soon as possible to help us in our investigation."

How to Protect Yourself from Vehicle Break-Ins:
• Always lock your vehicle: Even in your driveway, garage, underground parking or outside your home.
• Remove valuables: Take out items like electronics, wallets or bags.
• Park in well-lit areas: Criminals tend to target darker, secluded spots.
• Install security devices: Consider car alarms or anti-theft devices to deter potential thieves.
• Stay vigilant: Report any suspicious activity or individuals in your neighborhood to the Fargo Police Department.

What to Do if You're a Victim:
• Report the crime immediately: Call the FPD at 701.451.7660.
• Document the damage: Take photos of any broken windows, locks or missing items.
• Check for missing items: Ensure you inventory the stolen items, including vehicle registration, insurance and other sensitive documents.
• Follow up with your insurance: Contact your insurance company to report the theft and discuss potential coverage for damage or loss.

"We're committed to working closely with the community to ensure that Fargo remains a safe place to live and work," added Chief Zibolski "Your vigilance and timely reporting of these incidents are crucial steps in preventing future crimes and helping us bring the offenders to justice."
