PRESS RELEASE: Secretary Byrd Reminds Floridians of Voter Registration Deadline for August Primary Election

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. -

Today, Secretary of State Cord Byrd reminded Florida voters of the July 22, 2024, voter registration deadline for the August 20, 2024, Primary Election. Floridians can check their voter registration status or register to vote at RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov.

"Monday, July 22, 2024, is the deadline to register to vote for the August 20, 2024, Primary Election. It is also the deadline to update your party affiliation. In order to vote in Florida, you must be a registered voter for the election in which you wish to vote," said Secretary of State Cord Byrd. "I want to make sure that all Floridians who are eligible to register to vote take the opportunity to do so before book closing on July 22, 2024."

Florida is a closed primary election state. Only voters who are registered members of political parties may vote for respective party candidates or nominees for an office in a primary election including a presidential preference primary election. A person can register with a party or change his or her party affiliation at any time but in order to vote for a party candidate in an upcoming primary election, the person must register with that party or change his or her party by the registration deadline for that primary election (applicable also to a presidential preference primary election). See section 97.055, Fla. Stat.

You can find additional information regarding registering to vote in Florida on our FAQ - Voter Registration webpage. Floridians can check their voter registration status or register to vote at RegisterToVoteFlorida.gov.
