Eastern's Music Department announces fall concert schedule

Willimantic, CT (10/15/2024) - The Department of Music at Eastern Connecticut State University has announced an exciting lineup of live music performances for the fall 2024 semester. Featuring a diverse range of shows, the season calendar promises to engage audiences with a variety of musical genres and artistic styles.

Voice Masterclass: Musical Theatre

  • Nov. 4, 4:00 p.m., Fine Arts Instructional Center (FAIC) Concert Hall
  • Students will perform selections of musical theatre repertoire, featuring a special guest clinician, offering insights into the art of musical theatre. Additional details will be announced in the coming weeks.

Thread City Jazz - Faculty Recital Series

  • Nov. 8, 7:30 p.m., FAIC Foyer
  • Eastern's faculty jazz group, the Thread City Jazz Trio, will celebrate the release of their second album, following their 2023 debut. The trio includes Professors Anthony Cornicello on piano, Rick O'Neal on bass and Matt Bronson on drums.

"An Evening of Scenes from Musical Theatre & Operetta"

  • Nov. 15, 7:30 p.m., FAIC Concert Hall
  • Students from the course "MUS 113: Opera Theatre" will present a variety of scenes from musical theatre and operetta, showcasing a repertoire of classics and several contemporary musicals.

Eastern Concert Band: "Timeless Voyage"

  • Nov. 20, 7:30 p.m., FAIC Concert Hall
  • Eastern's Concert Band will perform "Timeless Voyage," a program featuring works by composers Kevin Day, Cait Nishimura, Harrison J. Collins, Kelijah Dunton and William Schuman.

Concert Chorale Concert

  • Nov. 24, 2:30 p.m., FAIC Concert Hall
  • The choral ensembles will perform a diverse repertoire, spanning from Renaissance classics to modern contemporary compositions. This is the only ticketed event of the season; for ticket information, visit https://easternct.showare.com/choralefall24/.

Piano Studio Recital

  • Nov. 25, 3:00 p.m., FAIC Concert Hall
  • Student pianists will showcase their progress in this recital, celebrating their dedication and artistry.

Student Chamber Music Recital

  • Nov. 25, 7:00 p.m., FAIC Concert Hall
  • This evening recital will feature chamber music from the Baroque era to modern-day compositions.

Jazz Combo and Big Band Concert

  • Dec. 2, 7:30 p.m., FAIC Foyer
  • The 3 O'Clock Jazz Combo and the Big Band will collaborate for an evening of jazz and will include a tribute to jazz pioneer Bud Powell, who would have turned 100 years old this year.

In addition to these featured performances, the Music Department will continue its Student Noon Recital series, showcasing student musicians on Fridays at noon. These recitals will be held in FAIC 110 and are free to students and the public. Upcoming dates are Oct. 18, Nov. 8, Nov. 15 and Nov. 22.
