America’s Expanding Broadband Networks Continue to Grow: The Midwest Pt. 3

As America targets efforts towards connecting every community to robust broadband - including the distribution of more than $40 billion in federal funds for building new networks - cable providers continue to do what they have always done: build out their networks to reach as many Americans as possible.

With network expansions continuing nationwide, here are a few more examples of projects that work towards the national goal of connecting every American. To learn about other projects highlighted in previous blogs, be sure to check out NCTA.com.

Wisconsin

Charter announced it had expanded gigabit service to more than 3,000 homes and small businesses in portions of Outagamie County, including Freedom, Center, Oneida, Osborn, and other municipalities.

Michigan

Charter has expanded its suite of services to more than 660 homes and small businesses in Leelanau County, Michigan. The ISP has also completed a newly constructed fiber-optic network buildout in portions of Cleveland, Glenn Arbor, Empire, and Kasson Townships.

Minnesota

Mediacom Communications has completed the first phase of construction on a fiber-to-the-home network funded with support from Minnesota DEED's Office of Broadband Development. Completion of phase one has connected 135 homes in Biwabik Township in the Esquagama Lake area of St. Louis County.

Illinois

Mediacom Communications announced the completion of a fiber construction project that brings ultra-high-speed internet to Grand Ridge. The project brings fiber-optic broadband services to more than 250 homes and businesses in the La Salle County community. Construction of the 4.25-mile fiber build began last summer and took about a year to complete, thanks to Mediacom's almost $400,000 investment in private capital.

Iowa

Mediacom has begun construction on fiber-to-the-home in the City of Runnells. The project will bring reliable broadband to over 600 previously underserved addresses at download speeds of up to 2 Gbps.

Ohio

Comcast is continuing its expansion in Ohio, with the announcement that construction has been completed and the full suite of Xfinity and Comcast Business products are now available to more than 700 local homes and businesses in parts of the Village of Bellaire, Colerain Township, and Pultney Township in Belmont County. The company also recently completed network expansions in Irondale, Knox, Richmond, and Union Townships in Belmont and Jefferson Counties and is continuing construction in Mahoning County to the North.

Indiana

Spectrum announced today that construction will soon be underway on several fiber-optic network expansion projects that will bring gigabit broadband and other Spectrum services to more than 2,400 homes and small businesses in previously unserved parts of Warrick County, Indiana.
