The SMPTE Sum Up 6 8 24

Welcome to the SMPTE Sum-Up, the weekly publication that details the recent and current events of your favorite standards development organization. This week at SMPTE:

The June Technology Committee Meetings kicked off this week! This multi-day event featured updates on all SMPTE's current TC projects, all of which had made major progress. There was even a presentation on AI! All of this took place in Ottawa, but those involved were able to view online in the event they couldn't travel.

SMPTE Education held a special webcast this week! "Preparing for the Transition from SDI to ST2110 and ST2059" was hosted by Karl Kuhn and focused on best practices and methodologies for switching over to IP Networks. The tutorial also shined a light on possible issues during these transitions. As more studios are switching to IP, classes like this are going to be pivotal.

SMPTE Florida held their annual NAB Wrap-Up this week! Specifically South Florida, this event was also a cocktail hour, where members of SMPTE and the greater community gathered to catch up and have fun! Co-sponsored by Comcast/NBCUniversal TechWomen, this event was a great way to bring the media tech community of South Florida together.

Last week, SMPTE Montreal/Quebec held an AI in Media bootcamp! The feedback from participants was extremely positive, highlighting the quality and relevance of the presentations. The day concluded with a networking "Happy Hour" session, offering an excellent opportunity to strengthen professional ties and forge new collaborations.

SMPTE RIS-OSA is seeking Co-Chairs for an exciting new initiative! The aim is to develop and document best practices for live stream distribution and rationalize and simplify the variables involved with this. We have agreed to set up two working groups to accomplish this. One focused on the recommendations themselves, and another focusing on security aspects for live stream distribution. Please contact Chris Lennon at [email protected] if you have any questions and/or would like to volunteer as a co-Chair for either group.

SMPTE would like to welcome our new and returning corporate members, ProSiebenSat.1 Tech Solutions GmbH and Tedial!

The SMPTE Job Board has been updated!
