COPPER CENTER, AK - The Wrangell-St. Elias National Park Subsistence Resource Commission will meet at the park's Visitor Center in Copper Center and by teleconference on Friday, October 4, and Saturday, October 5, to consider a range of issues related to subsistence hunting and fishing in the park. This is the alternate meeting date announced in the Federal Register notice.
Commission business will include an opportunity to comment on proposals to change federal subsistence fishing and hunting regulations regarding Nelchina caribou and Tolsona's customary and traditional use of salmon in the Chitina Subdistrict and freshwater fish in the Copper River drainage, upstream of Haley Creek. The commission is seeking input from current residents of Tolsona on their subsistence uses of lands designated as Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. A variety of reports will also be presented.
The meeting is open to the public, and public testimony opportunities are provided. Members of the public are encouraged to participate. On October 4, the meeting will start at 9 AM and recess for the day at 5 PM or upon completion of business. On October 5, the meeting will start at 9 AM and continue until business is completed. If business is completed on October 4, the meeting will adjourn, and no meeting will take place on October 5.
The meeting agenda and other meeting materials will be posted on the park website approximately one week before the meeting at https://go.nps.gov/October2024SRCMeeting.
