Forbes ranks UI, UI Health Care as top employers in Iowa

The University of Iowa and UI Health Care are ranked among America's Best Employers by State 2024 list published by Forbes magazine.

The list, published Aug. 20, includes 30 employers in the state of Iowa. UI Health Care is ranked No. 8 on Iowa's list, while the UI is No. 18.

"From our exceptional benefits, world-renowned reputation, to our strong workplace culture, the University of Iowa is committed to being a top place to work," says Cheryl Reardon, UI chief human resources officer and associate vice president. "Our campus is a wonderful place for employees to grow their career while enjoying all the resources and amenities our community has to offer."

Denise Jamieson, UI vice president for Medical Affairs and the Tyrone D. Artz Dean of the Carver College of Medicine, says she is continually impressed by the unique and impactful ways UI Health Care employees carry out world-class clinical care, research, and education.

"Our greatest strength is our people. It is our employees that make our mission a reality each and every day and make UI Health Care an exceptional place to work, receive care, and train," says Jamieson.

Forbes, along with market research firm Statista, created the list by surveying more than 160,000 employees working for companies with 500 or more people in the U.S. Participants were asked how likely they were to recommend their employer and to evaluate employers they worked with in the past two years. Those responses were compiled with survey data from the past three years, though more weight was given to the more recent data.

In total, 1,294 organizations from across the country made the list. In addition to education and health care, the list also included organizations working in retail, government services, and banking sectors.
