NJU launches Artificial Intelligence General Education Core Courses

On September 13, NJU launched Artificial Intelligence General Education Core Courses (AIGECC). Tan Tieniu, Chair of the University CPC Council and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, gave the first lecture, titled "Basic Concepts and Development Trends in Artificial Intelligence." More than 4,000 freshmen of Class 2028attended the lecture and enjoyed the exploration of AI world.

Tan emphasized the importance of AI as a strategic technology driving industrial transformations and advocated for its integration into educational curricula. He introduced fundamental concepts and the history of AI, highlighting generative AI and its implications. By providing industry examples, he illustrated AI's transformative potential across scientific fields. Tan also cautioned social and ethical issues related to AI, and underscored the need for enhanced governance.

During the lecture, Tan also outlined the syllabus of the AIGECCfor the fall semester of 2024. Top scholars and experts are invited to join the course, and will cover topics such as machine learning, neural networks, machine vision, natural language processing, large models, human-computer gaming, and intelligent speech. Earlier this year, NJU annouced its commitment to implement AI general education for all the incoming undergraduate students, and achieve the goal that "everyone can learning AI at anywhere and at any time."
