Firearm Recovered After a Traffic Stop in Dorchester

At about 8:12 PM, on Monday, September 2, 2024, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested Shawn Watt, 28, of Hyde Park, on firearm charges.

Officers were on patrol in the area of Columbia Road and Washington Street when they observed a motor vehicle with an expired, non-renewable registration sticker. Officers activated their cruiser's emergency lights and sirens to initiate a traffic stop in the area of 131 Washington Street.

Officers advised the operator that the vehicle would need to be towed, and he needed to exit the vehicle. After further investigation, officers recovered a firearm from inside the vehicle. The firearm was later determined to be a Walther PK380 with one round in the chamber and size rounds in the magazine. The firearm was also equipped with a laser sight attachment.

Watt was placed under arrest and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm Subsequent Offense, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition Subsequent Offense, Operating a Motor Vehicle with an Expired Registration, and Inspection sticker violation. He is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
