NASEO, AASHTO, Atlas Public Policy, and the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation Launch the NEVI Awards Dashboard

Today, the National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO), in partnership with the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), Atlas Public Policy, and the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation, launched the NEVI Awards Dashboard.

The NEVI Awards Dashboard tracks electric vehicle (EV) charging sites funded by states through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program. Created by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), NEVI provides $5 billion in dedicated formula funding to states to strategically deploy EV charging infrastructure and establish an interconnected network to facilitate data collection, access, and reliability. Funding under this program is initially directed to designated Alternative Fuel Corridors (AFCs) for EVs to build out this national network, particularly along the Interstate Highway System. Once a state has fully built out its AFCs, remaining funding may be used on any public road or in other publicly accessible locations. Investments are made in line with annually submitted state plans, which are approved by the Federal Highway Administration.

NASEO, AASHTO, and Atlas Public Policy developed the EV States Clearinghouse, which is a one-stop shop for state agencies to plan and implement EV infrastructure programs under the Infrastructure Investments and Jobs Act. While many of the resources in the Clearinghouse are available only to state agencies, the NEVI Awards Dashboard is now publicly available, showcasing key data regarding progress states have made in implementing the NEVI program, including which states have issued solicitations for sites, announced awards, opened stations, and/or achieved "fully built out" status. To date, 42 states have issued at least one solicitation (with some states having issued several), 36 states have issued awards, and 11 states have at least one operational station open to the public.

"The number of NEVI-funded stations available for public charging is growing by the day," said David Terry, NASEO President. "The work State Energy Offices, State Departments of Transportation, and their private-sector partners have put in over the past three years - building on EV infrastructure programs in place for a decade - is paying off. While it takes time to design and run solicitations, contract with awardees, and get stations built and energized, we are now hitting the tipping point and stations are opening nationwide."

Each NEVI-funded charging station is conveniently located within one mile of the highway and has a minimum of four 150-kilowatt direct current fast charging (DCFC) ports. The NEVI Awards Dashboard also includes information on specific sites awarded funding through state NEVI solicitations, including:

• award recipient,
• site host and category (e.g., gas station, restaurant, hotel, etc.),
• nearest highway exit/intersection,
• site status (awarded vs open),
• available amenities (e.g., restrooms, food, wifi, etc.),
• total funding awarded,
• number of ports funded, and
• number of awarded sites in disadvantaged communities.

"The NEVI program is amazing. Words written on a page three years ago have transformed into critical infrastructure that people are interacting with every day. These stations have already resulted in more than 44,000 charging sessions, 1.4 million kWhs of energy served, and 4.2 million EV miles enabled," said Gabe Klein, Executive Director of the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation. The NEVI Awards Dashboard is regularly updated with new data as states release new solicitations and award and open additional sites.
