State Route 179 Bridge Dedication to be renamed after New York St...

On August 23, 2024, at 10:00 A.M., The New York State Police Troop A Commander, Major Stanley J. Edwards III with Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (R-C, Elma) and Jonathan D. Rivera (D, Buffalo) will be renaming the State Route 179 (Milestrip Road) bridge over Interstate 90 in the town of Hamburg in honor of Trooper William P. Keane, a 26-year veteran of the New York State Police, who died in 2013 while on duty.

Trooper William P. Keane, died at the age of 56 on August 23, 2013. Trooper Keane, a member of the Troop A Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit, suffered a fatal heart attack while participating in the North American Inspectors' Challenge in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Trooper Keane entered the Division on March 30, 1987, and was a 26-year veteran. He served in Troop A for his entire career. Trooper Keane also served his country in the United States Navy.

This dedication will take place north shoulder of State Route 179 in front of Chuck E. Cheese before the Interstate 90 overpass.
