BPD Community Alert: Recent Package Thefts Involving Electronic Items Delivered by FedEx

BPD Community Alert: The Boston Police Department is currently monitoring an increase in FedEx package thefts containing electronic items that have been stolen from residential addresses shortly after being delivered in the region. Victims/FedEx drivers have reported observing suspects, and suspect vehicles waiting in the area several hours prior to deliveries. Recent reports show suspects are male (Hispanic male or black male), possibly operating in crews using various vehicle types and registration plates. It should be noted that this appears to be a nationwide trend.

We would like to offer some safety tips to ensure that packages end up in the right hands.

• FedEx Packages can also be shipped to FedEx Office stores, and customers even have the option to go online and redirect a package to a store while it is en route.

• Ask that mail carriers post a notice that a package is available for pickup at the local post office instead of leaving it unattended.

• If you will not be home for an extended period of time, place a temporary hold on your packages until you can retrieve them from a store

• Taking advantage of the security options offered by the carriers will help ensure packages are not easy targets for thieves.

If you or someone you know has been victimized by this type of crime, please report the incident to the Boston Police Department. If you see criminal activity taking place, or are in need of police assistance, always call 9-1-1.
