Voters head to the polls today to choose the next U.S. President, as well as candidates in pivotal races in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. Below are some of the key races to watch:
Delaware
Delaware Elections
Voters in Delaware will decide on the next governor, a U.S. Senate seat, and the state's sole seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. In the gubernatorial race, Democrat and New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer faces Republican and Delaware House Minority Leader Mike Ramone. U.S. Representative Lisa Blunt Rochester is up against Republican Eric Hansen and Independent Dr. Mike Katz for the Senate seat. In the House race, Democratic state Senator Sarah McBride faces Republican John Whalen III, a retired state police officer.
District of Columbia
DC Board of Elections
Several council seats are up for election, including Wards 2, 4, 7, 8, and two at-large positions. Voters will also decide on Initiative 83, which proposes allowing independents to vote in primaries and introducing ranked-choice voting for future elections.
Maryland
Maryland Elections
A major race to watch is for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Ben Cardin, with former governor Larry Hogan and Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks on the ballot. The outcome could impact the balance of power in the Senate. All eight of Maryland's Congressional seats are also up for grabs, with District 6, featuring Democrat April Delaney and Republican Neil Parrott, drawing significant attention.
Virginia
Virginia Elections
All 11 of Virginia's congressional seats are on the ballot, as well as the U.S. Senate seat held by incumbent Senator Tim Kaine, who is running for re-election against Republican Hung Cao.
