Outdoor Brands Continue Support for Fallen Overland Park Police Officer

Three years ago, the community of Overland Park was shaken to its core when one of its own was tragically killed while serving in the line of duty. Overland Park Police Officer Mike Mosher, who served in the department for nearly 15 years, was shot and killed May 3, 2020, while on his way to work. Mosher was responding to a hit-and-run crash when a suspect pulled a gun and shot Mosher. Before succumbing to his wounds, Mosher was able to return fire, killing the perpetrator.

The lives of many in the Overland Park community would never be the same. Mike was husband to Corrinne Mosher, who served as a Bushnell ambassador as part of its sponsored shooting team. Corrinne and her husband were friends of many at the Bushnell office and Mike was a leader in the community, serving as the lead of the Overland Park Police Officers Association and helping to organize community initiatives such as the annual "Shop With a Cop" event.

In 2022, the Kansas House of Representatives designated May 3 as Officer Mike Mosher Day. The Officer Mike Mosher Memorial Scholarship is also given to students who embody Mosher's giving spirit and commitment to community service.

For the last three years, local organizations including Hero Fund USA and local Frontier Justice locations have teamed up with Bushnell to host the annual Mike Mosher Memorial Marksmanship Tournament. The annual event helps raise funds for the families of first responders who are injured or killed while serving in the line of duty, while also helping local agencies procure equipment for first responders to conduct their jobs more safely.

This year, Bushnell and other local brands once again supported the match, helping raise over $12,000. Vista Outdoor's support of the event, attendance and donation of raffle items have helped raise over $60,000 in the last three years. All funds raised from the match have remained in-state, helping first responders purchase items like bunker gear for fire departments, drones and ballistic/protective equipment for both fire and police, rescue safety equipment, water rescue safety equipment, K9 safety equipment, radio communication equipment, thermal imagers, and much more.

Thanks to all of those who have helped support this event and the many more who work to honor Mosher's memory and legacy in the community.
