National Public Works Week May 19 thru May 25

PROCLAMATION

PUBLIC WORKS WEEK MAY 19 - 25, 2024

WHEREAS, the services provided by the City of Westland Department of Public Services are an integral part of residents' everyday lives; and

WHEREAS, the support of an understanding community is vital to the efficient operation of the department's programs such as storm drainage, streetlights, roads, walkways, public buildings, solid waste recycling, collection and disposal, sanitary sewers and wastewater; and

WHEREAS, the health, safety and welfare of the city residents greatly depend upon these facilities and services; and

WHEREAS, the quality and effectiveness of these facilities as well as their planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance are dependent on the efforts and skill of Department of Public Services employees; and

WHEREAS, staff partner to ensure public works projects meet the health, safety, and sustainability standards of all applicable codes and ordinances; and

WHEREAS, the efficiency of the qualified and dedicated personnel who staff this department is materially influenced by the community's attitude and understanding of the importance of the work they perform; NOW THEREFORE

BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Westland Mayor and Westland City Council, on behalf of all residents of The City of Westland, do hereby proclaim the week of May 19, 2024 as

Public Works Week

The City of Westland urges all residents to learn about the varied services and programs provided by the Department of Public Services and to recognize the the commitment exhibited by staff to our community's health, safety and welfare.
