Our future leaders: Meet our grads

They'll be working across variety of roles and departments over the course of two years.

It's the first time we've recruited graduates as part of the National Graduate Scheme. Ellen and Lewis have already got stuck into big projects which include the homelessness and rough sleeping strategy and the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance (DAHA) accreditation.

Over the next two years they'll be working on other key projects that will have a lasting and positive impact on our residents and communities.

Meet Ellen Terry, Graduate Management Trainee

"I'm really excited to kick start my career in Local Government with the London Borough of Harrow. I graduated in 2024, and I'm really excited to kick start my career in Local Government with the London Borough of Harrow. This opportunity will allow me to grow my knowledge and experience while making a positive impact on residents' lives.

"I am keen to collaborate with my new colleagues to deliver innovative and exciting community projects that put residents first!"

Meet Lewis Wormald, Graduate Management Trainee

"I graduated in 2024, and this programme is already proving to be an exciting and engaging first step in my career. I'm really looking forward to learning more about the council and working together with the team to support local residents. Harrow is an amazing place to grow my personal skills and professional career."

That's not all, we've also been supporting school pupils, those with special educational needs and care leavers through work experience placements and apprenticeships. More than 40 young people have been given the opportunity to experience what happens in local government.

Cllr David Ashton, Cabinet Member for Finance and Highways said:

"It's important that young people are given opportunities to develop and thrive in their chosen careers. This scheme is a fantastic way for us to grow future leaders and develop a talented workforce to deliver our services.

"I am pleased that Ellen and Lewis have started their career with us. We'll give them the support they need over the next two years, and an opportunity to work on some big projects that will make a difference to the lives of our residents and businesses."

This is just some of the work we are doing to create future leaders, open new opportunities and help young people decide on their futures. This is one of 30 flagship actions to restore pride in Harrow and put our residents first.
