Greenberg Traurig Recognized by Law360 as a 2024 Florida Powerhouse

MIAMI - Sept. 26, 2024 - For the eighth consecutive year, Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, P.A. is recognized by Law360 as a "Florida Powerhouse" for playing an integral role in many of the state's most notable court cases, business transactions, and real estate developments.

"As Florida continues to cement its place as a global hub for businesses and entrepreneurs, Greenberg Traurig's Florida attorneys are playing a critical role in many of the state's most high-stakes legal matters," Greenberg Traurig Senior Chairman Matthew B. Gorson said. "This award is a testament to our strong connection to the state, where we were founded 57 years ago, and we are proud of the role we've played in its growth."

Founded in Miami in 1967, Greenberg Traurig now has more than 2,750 attorneys in 48 locations, including six Florida offices - Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Orlando, Tallahassee, Tampa, and West Palm Beach. During the past year, Greenberg Traurig's 400+ Florida attorneys assisted clients with legal issues across various industries.

The firm's Real Estate and Land Use practices assisted Swire Properties with a landmark redevelopment of the Mandarin Oriental on Miami's Brickell Key. The team also advised Mast Capital on a $600-million financing package for Cipriani Residences, the largest condo construction loan in Miami history, and represented Seagis in the sale of a 1.4-million-sq.-ft. portfolio of 25 warehouses in Broward and Miami-Dade counties, one of the state's largest industrial transactions of 2023.

Greenberg Traurig's Corporate Practice was at the front line of building the state's growing private equity sector, spearheading over two dozen transactions valued at more than $1 billion over the past year. The firm advised Palm Beach Capital with the closing of its sixth fund, Palm Beach Capital Fund VI, which raised over $350 million in capital commitments. In other corporate work, the team also represented OPKO Health in its convertible senior note offerings, totaling $300 million, and in the $237.5 million sale to Labcorp of select assets from its wholly owned subsidiary, Bioreference Health.

The Florida Litigation Practice triumphed in matters impacting Florida residents and businesses, such as granting The Palm Beach Post access to grand jury materials from Florida's controversial Jeffrey Epstein prosecution. The victory helped lead to a law allowing the release of such transcripts to the public. This is the first reported Florida case where media was granted access to grand jury materials other than public corruption cases. The Florida Litigation team also secured several summary judgment victories for Lockheed Martin in high-profile toxic-tort cases involving 70+ plaintiffs.

During a time of crisis in Florida's insurance market, the firm played a key role on both the legislative and financial fronts. The Florida Public Finance & Infrastructure Practice drafted and negotiated $1.25 billion in credit agreements for Citizens Property Insurance Corporation, providing liquidity financing to enable Citizens to pay policyholder claims after a catastrophic hurricane. The Florida Insurance Practice also assisted new players like Slide Insurance Company in raising $35 million to establish a senior credit facility, and several other new market entrants, including Victor Insurance Exchange and Manatee Insurance Exchange.
