ADA, Okla. - The East Central University Esports team recently made history by competing in the first-ever Great American Conference competition for Esports. Though the Tigers experienced a narrow loss in the GAC finals, they completed another significant milestone only two weeks later by winning their first National Championship.
The League of Legends team for Tiger Esports competed and won the National Esports Collegiate Conference (NECC) Division 7 West National Championship.
ECU was represented by Chris Barker of Ada, Jesse Barker of Ada, Allie Mabry of Ada, Breckin Guevara of Tulsa and Dakota Cao of Pensacola, Fla.
"We have had an incredibly productive semester," said ECU Esports Director Cody Soden. "This championship is definitely the cherry on top of such a wonderful semester for ECU Tiger Esports. I am incredibly proud of the students for their efforts and success."
The NECC win comes at the end of the Fall 2024 term, which saw a rise in interest for Esports at ECU as well as a series of first-time accomplishments.
Tryouts for the Spring 2025 Esports seasons are scheduled for Jan. 20-25. The season will begin on Monday, Jan. 27.
