Statement on Kathy Hochul’s Closure of Great Meadows Correctional Facility

Saratoga, N.Y. -Congresswoman Elise Stefanik released the below statement following a report by Washington County Planning that measured the negative impact Kathy Hochul's closure of the Great Meadows Correctional Facility will have on the county and its residents.

"As I said when failed Governor Kathy Hochul unveiled her disastrous plan to close the Great Meadows Correctional Facility, her careless prison closures will end in disaster for the Empire State. Hochul's radical Far Left Democrat agenda will cost Washington County 2,419 jobs and millions in lost revenue as hardworking Upstate New York families relocate to find work. Fort Ann may lose nine percent of their students as families relocate causing school taxes to rise and class sizes to be disrupted. Kathy Hochul is to blame for this Upstate exodus and the displacement of the thousands of families whose livelihoods will be taken from them with Great Meadow's closure,"said Congresswoman Elise Stefanik.

In August 2024, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik led a bipartisan rally to save Great Meadows Correctional Facility in Washington Country after Far Left Governor Kathy Hochul announced her plans to close this prison.
