Eshoo Statement on Prime Minister Netanyahu’s Address to Congress

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Today, Rep. Anna G. Eshoo (CA-16) released the following statement on her decision not to attend Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's address to Congress:

"As a longtime friend of Israel, I made the difficult decision not to attend Prime Minister Netanyahu's address to Congress because I cannot in good conscience applaud a man who has cynically pursued his political interests at the expense of Israelis and Palestinians alike."

"As Prime Minister Netanyahu speaks to Congress today, Israeli and American hostages are suffering in Hamas captivity, the Israeli military operation in Gaza has become aimless and unimaginably destructive to Palestinian civilians, Israel is on the brink of war with Hezbollah, Israel's standing in the world is greatly diminished, and Israeli democracy is beleaguered from a sustained onslaught by the Prime Minister and his far-right allies. Rather than addressing Congress, Prime Minister Netanyahu should be in Jerusalem attending to and taking responsibility for these crises, many of which are of his own making."
