Transparency International’s Annual Membership Meeting elects new board members and adopts key resolutions to strengthen anti-corruption efforts

As corruption continues to fuel governance issues worldwide, Transparency International's 2024 Annual Membership Meeting adopted three new resolutions aimed at addressing critical issues in governance, global collaboration and occupation as a factor exacerbating corruption.

The Membership approved a resolution for its charter changes designed to strengthen governance across the movement, aligning Transparency International's structure with best practices and increasing transparency.

The AMM passed a Global Collaboration Framework resolution, establishing a flexible and cooperative model for cross-border anti-corruption initiatives.

A significant resolution was adopted on occupation as a factor exacerbating corruption. Transparency International declares occupation as a significant enabler of corruption, weakening governance structures, reducing institutional capacity and fostering an environment where transparency and accountability are severely compromised.

New Board Members
In addition to the resolutions, the meeting confirmed two appointments to Transparency International's Board of Directors, each for a three-year term:

• Dion Abdool has been re-elected to the board after serving a three-year term. He previously chaired the Trinidad & Tobago Transparency Institute (Transparency International chapter). Dion is an Attorney at Law with over 25 years of experience in the corporate environment and holds a master's degree in law (corporate and commercial).

• Apollinaire Mupiganyi has been serving as Executive Director of Transparency International Rwanda since 2009. He brings 15 years of experience in anti-corruption leadership and has been active in Transparency International's strategic planning and holds a master's degree in business administration.

The AMM also elected Christina Margaryan, Development Director at Transparency International Armenia, to the Membership Accreditation Committee. Her work focuses on chapter development and organisational growth, underscoring her commitment to strengthening Transparency International's presence.

Transparency International's 2024 Annual Membership Meeting reaffirmed the organisation's strategic priorities and commitment to building a stronger, more effective global movement against corruption.
