Empowering Minds Through Freedom and Heritage: 2024 Freedom Heritage Literacy Series

Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site, in partnership with Say it Loud! Readers and Writers, invites the public to participate in the Freedom and Heritage Literacy Series. This event celebrates the transformative power of education across diverse genres, emphasizing the importance of youth empowerment and creative expression.

The Freedom Heritage Literacy Series will explore how education cultivates social literacy, cultural understanding, and impactful communication. By embracing knowledge from diverse voices, the program aims to expand perspectives and foster opportunities for exploration and growth.

This year's series will feature esteemed guest speakers who will share their personal and educational journeys. Topics will include youth mobilization, the art of storytelling, creating personal narratives, and fostering community collaboration. Recognized as leaders and activists, these speakers have made significant contributions through their relentless community service and dedication to youth empowerment.

All events are free, open to the public, and will take place at various locations throughout Little Rock. This educational series is an opportunity to engage with history, learn from past movements, and empower the next generation to continue the fight for social justice. Tomorrow's Children: Back to School to Learn How to Thrive in a Challenging Educational Environment

Seventy years after Brown v. Board of Education, how do we navigate a tech-centric society that often lacks human elements? Dr. Mahalia Hines will explore how to measure the growth and conviction of tomorrow's children as technology increasingly co-parents our youth. She will discuss best practices for balancing technology at home and in the classroom.

Dr. Mahalia Hines is a former principal, school board member, and author of Tomorrow's Children: How to Raise Children to Be Human in a Tech Society. Dr. Hines is the mother of Grammy award-winning artist Common.
