Tonight, Americans Will See Governor Walz Is Fighting for Them – With a Record to Prove It Arrow

Tonight's debate will prove that only one ticket is fighting to improve the lives of hardworking families and has a record of delivering tangible progress throughout their careers.

In Minnesota, Democrats, led by Governor Tim Walz, have passed laws to provide breakfast and lunch for K-12 students, increase funding for mental health services, cut taxes for middle-class families, establish paid family and medical leave, and enshrine protection for reproductive freedom. Meanwhile, JD Vance is the poster boy for Trump's Project 2025, with virtually nothing to show for the people of Ohio.

As Governor Tim Walz prepares to face off with Project 2025 Post Boy JD Vance, DNC Spokesperson Stephanie Justice issued the following statement:

Governor Tim Walz worked to end hunger in Minnesota schools, passing universal free meals for students in grades K-12.

"Surrounded by school children, teachers, advocates and public officials, Gov. Tim Walz signed a bill into law Friday to provide breakfasts and lunches at no charge to students at participating schools. It makes Minnesota the fourth state in the country to do so. During the signing ceremony, Walz told Minnesota parents this will ease some of the stress on them.

"'If you're looking for good news, this was certainly the place to be,' said Walz. 'I'm honored and I do think this is one piece of that puzzle in reducing both childhood poverty and hunger insecurity.'"

"Walz last March signed into law the universal free school lunch bill - one of his major budget priorities - after it passed the DFL-controlled Legislature. Students can receive one free breakfast and one free lunch every day regardless of their family's income.

After Donald Trump's overturning of Roe v. Wade, Tim Walz stood up for fundamental freedoms, making Minnesota the first state to pass a law codifying abortion rights.

As governor, Tim Walz built on successes of the Biden-Harris administration by passing the largest bipartisan infrastructure bill in Minnesota history.
