Mayor Walsh Announces Update Trash/Recycling Routes Starting Sep 9

Published on September 06, 2024

Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh announced new trash and recycling routes in the City of Syracuse beginning September 9, 2024. The new routes, which result in a change in collection days for approximately 26% of Syracuse households, are based on a comprehensive, data-driven analysis aimed at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of sanitation services.
All residential properties in the city received postcards with their pick-up days. Residents can check their pick-up day on an interactive map at syr.gov/routeoptimization. The map allows users to input their address and check their updated sanitation and recycling collection dates.
The optimized pick-up routes have been designed to streamline collection processes, reduce service delays, and better address the needs of the community. Under the new system the total number of routes will be reduced from 15 to 12, allowing the Department of Public Works to redeploy staff to other essential sanitation services, such as bulk pickup, elderly and disabled exemption pickups, and litter collection across the city.
For any questions regarding the new collection schedule, residents can contact Cityline at (315) 448-CITY (2489). Additionally, ongoing tips and reminders can be found by following @SYRCityline on social media.
