Marine LCPL Alberto Flores Jr. Receives a Life-Changing Specially Adapted Custom Home

For Marine Lance Corporal Alberto Flores Jr., a comfortable, accessible home is essential for regaining his freedom and independence. In 2005, while on his second combat deployment in Ramadi, Iraq, LCPL Flores sustained severe injuries to his right leg, ultimately requiring an amputation below the knee. This life-changing injury not only affected his physical abilities but also transformed his family's daily life and routines, creating a need for a home that fosters both comfort and independence.

On September 21, 2024, Homes For Our Troops (HFOT) celebrated a major milestone by delivering its 400th specially adapted custom home to LCPL Flores, all while celebrating HFOT s 20th year of "Building Homes and Rebuilding Lives." Wayfair and HFOT came together to bring the Flores family's vision to life, offering them a fresh start filled with new opportunities.

With furnishings from Wayfair, the specially adapted custom HFOT Flores family home is designed to offer more than accessibility-each space has been curated with pieces that foster comfort, independence, and a true sense of belonging. The home's interior was carefully curated to enhance accessibility and comfort for LCPL Flores, featuring a large, supportive couch with sturdy arms that allows him to lift himself up independently from his wheelchair, as well as with a single additional chair in the spacious living room layout, providing ample room to maneuver with ease. Each feature is intended to help him manage daily tasks independently and enjoy the little moments that make a house a home.

Recognizing the importance of fostering a true sense of home for all, Wayfair has committed itself to supporting Veterans and their families in partnership with Homes For Our Troops. Since 2018, Wayfair has partnered with HFOT to provide accessible, thoughtfully designed furnishings that create welcoming and practical spaces, helping Veterans live with greater ease and comfort. This vision of "home for all" is brought to life in LCPL Flores's new home in New Braunfels, Texas, where Wayfair's custom furnishings allow him and his family to live in an environment that supports their needs and enhances their quality of life.

For over 25 years, LCPL Flores and his wife, whom he met in eighth grade, have cherished family life together with their son, Alberto III, and grandson, Aden. Now, with a specially adapted custom home, they can host gatherings, enjoy barbecues, and spend quality time with loved ones-strengthening family bonds in a home built for them.
