The City of Santa Rosa envisions a community where walking, bicycling, and rolling are comfortable and convenient for people of all ages and abilities. The Local Road Safety Plan (LRSP) was adopted by the city council in July 2022 following extensive community outreach opportunities to obtain feedback in an effort to increase the comfort and usability of our City streets for all residents.
Guided by the LRSP, this initiative enhances road safety, accessibility and demonstrates Santa Rosa's commitment to responsible fiscal management by combining essential infrastructure projects for maximum efficiency and community benefit. This approach allows the city to efficiently replace existing markings with new designs, reducing overall project costs and minimizing disruption to residents.
The initiative strives to improve local road safety by implementing complete street permanent pavement markings as part of its ongoing slurry seal project.
The next phase of the project is expected to begin in the coming weeks when various streets across the city will undergo pavement marking modifications. These modification enhancements include the addition of dedicated bike lanes, strategic lane reductions and other improvements designed to prioritize the comfort level for pedestrians and cyclists.
Unlike the initial slurry seal application phase, which temporarily restricted traffic flow, the installation of permanent street markings is expected to have minimal impact on residents. Streets will remain open to traffic during this final stage, ensuring continued accessibility for all community members. Arterial streets will see modifications in striping based on valuable feedback received through community engagement initiatives under the Local Road Safety Plan. These adjustments are aimed at creating a safer and more accessible environment for pedestrians and cyclists alike.
Based on the Bicycle and Pedestrian list of priority projects, LRSP focuses on the following corridors in the City:
As part of a separate Complete Streets Plan, the following corridor will also receive modified restriping:
