The Village's Fire Department is reminding residents to get in the simple, life-saving habit of changing the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors when changing clocks for daylight saving time.
Additionally, please review the following safety reminders:
-
Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors monthly to ensure they are operational. The Fire Department recommends installing smoke alarms on every level of the home, inside each bedroom, and outside sleeping areas. Carbon monoxide alarms should be installed on each level of the home and outside sleeping areas.
-
Replace the smoke alarm if it is more than 10 years old with a new smoke alarm that has a sealed 10-year battery.
-
Close bedroom doors! During a fire, closed bedroom doors can slow the spread of fire and allow extra moments to get to safety.
-
Make a fire escape plan. Ensure that there are two ways from each room and a clear path to the outside of the home from each exit. In case of a fire, once outside, stay out of the house.
Remember to check your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms before you go to bed this Saturday, November 2nd!
