NOPD Announces Preliminary Crime Statistics for August 18-24, 2024

The following is a weekly report of citywide crime statistics compiled by the NOPD Analytics Unit for the period of August 18-24, 2024.

Notable arrests made

During the listed week, the NOPD also made the following notable arrest(s):

• On August 18, the NOPD arrested Dana "Dante" Dorceus (black male, DOB: 04-02-1985) in the investigation of a homicide that occurred on July 23, 2024, in the 2400 block of Dryades Street. Dorceus was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on one count of second-degree murder, as well as on a court capias on a separate case.
• On August 21, the NOPD arrested Levi Johnigan (black male, DOB: 04-30-1993) in the investigation of a homicide that occurred on June 26, 2024, in the 4300 block of Stemway Drive. Johnigan was booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center on one count of second-degree murder.
• On August 21, the NOPD obtained an arrest warrant for Jerrell J. Andrews (black male, DOB: 01-27-2000) in the investigation of a homicide that occurred on August 14, 2024, at the intersection of Poland and North Johnson streets. Andrews, who was found to be incarcerated in Houston, Texas, has been extradited to Orleans Parish to face charges of second-degree murder, attempted second degree murder and additional domestic-related charges.
• On August 21 the NOPD's Second and Sixth districts, with assistance from the Violent Crime Abatement and Investigations Team, arrested three suspects on various drug and weapons charges in the 2900 block of Hamilton Street. Arrested were the following:
  • Roy Hilton (black male, DOB: 09-26-1998), on two counts of illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, two counts of negligent carrying of a concealed handgun and one count of possession of a machine gun.
  • Raheem Brown (black male, DOB: 04-02-2003) on one count each of negligent carrying of a concealed handgun, illegal possession of a stolen firearm and with illegal carrying of a weapon while in the possession of narcotics; two counts of possession of Schedule II drugs-including Fentanyl; and with possession of drugs in a Drug Free Zone.
  • Royce Wilson (black male, DOB: 02-22-2002), on two counts of drug possession and possession of drugs in a Drug Free Zone.

Gun arrests (arrests made under LA RS 14:95 and sub-items)

Year to date, the NOPD has made 332 arrests for illegal possession of a firearm. This is a 41-percent decrease compared to 561 arrests made during the same period in 2023.
