The role of the media in promoting greater gender equality in sport

On 22 November, some 30 media professionals and sports journalists from 20 countries gathered at the headquarters of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in Geneva, Switzerland, and online, to discuss the role of media in promoting greater gender equality in sport as part of the Council of Europe - European Union All In Plus project.

The aim of these media informative sessions are to tackle stereotypical portrayals of women in sport, the under-representation of women's sports in the media, and the silencing of the voices of women working in sports media and to create a space for meaningful discussions and exchanges of expertise for a deeper understanding of the challenges associated with gender disparities in sport. Following the sessions, guidelines on best practices in this area will be published.
