The operator of a Belfast Coffee Shop has been fined £4000 at Belfast Magistrates' Court in relation to food hygiene offences.
The prosecution was taken against the operator of Caffe Nero, 19 Lombard Street, Belfast, following a routine hygiene inspection of the premises on 19 September 2023.
Environmental Health Officers found Caffe Nero did not have adequate procedures to control pests, namely rats, and the premises was not pest proofed.
The premises was rated one indicating 'major improvement necessary' to comply with the food hygiene requirements.
The operator agreed to close voluntarily for a number of days until officers were satisfied sufficient measures had been taken to remove the imminent risk to public health.
The operator was fined a total of £4000 for two offences and ordered to pay costs of £359.
The premises has since been re-rated following a further inspection where hygiene conditions within the premises were deemed to be at satisfactory standard and a food hygiene rating of 4 (good) was issued.
