Fire Hydrant Testing Begins Aug. 12

As part of ongoing system improvement and maintenance, the City of Dayton and Montgomery County Environmental Services will conduct flow testing at 100 fire hydrants. Tests begin Monday, Aug. 12, and will continue approximately two weeks. During this time, you may notice:

  • Crews at work in your neighborhood
  • A slight drop in water pressure during testing
  • Brown water after testing--while brown water is safe to use, it can stain laundry and dishes.

If you notice testing in your area, please avoid using water and delay washing clothes and dishes until testing is complete. After testing, run cold tap water until the water runs clear. Discolored water could linger for up to a few hours, but water quality is not affected by the discoloration.
