Beatty Announces More Than $22.8 Million in Federal Funding for Electric Bus Infrastructure in Central Ohio

WASHINGTON, DC- Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-03) joined U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to announce a $22.8 million grant to buy new battery electric and fuel electric buses along with installing a fueling infrastructure. The buses will replace aging natural gas buses, which will help Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) achieve a fully zero-emission fleet by 2035 and improve air quality for riders in Columbus, OH.

"This is great news for Ohio's Third Congressional District. USDOT's grant for COTA will improve affordability and safety for riders by reducing fuel costs and greenhouse gas emissions, while supporting Ohio's long-term plan for a transition to clean energy."said Congresswoman Beatty. "I applaud Secretary Buttigieg and the Biden-Harris Administration for ensuring that communities across the country are seeing investments in transportation and sustainability."

"117 communities, including Columbus, are receiving the good news that their transit buses are being modernized and their commutes improved through President Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg."The Biden-Harris Administration is helping agencies across 47 states replace old buses running on dirty, expensive fuels by delivering modern and zero-emission buses, manufactured by American workers, that will connect more people to where they need to go."
