SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV - Shepherd University students in the Psychology 326 Psychology of Addiction class are holding an event on Monday, November 11, that will explore how the legal system intersects with drug addiction.
The Honorable Judge David M. Hammer will speak to students and community members during the Justice in Recovery event exploring addiction, the judicial system, and the transformative impact of drug treatment courts.
Judge Hammer will share his insights into how the judiciary can play a pivotal role in addressing substance use disorders and fostering recovery.
The event begins at 7 p.m. in the Robert C. Byrd Center for Congressional History and Education auditorium.
Judge Hammer practiced law in Berkeley County, West Virginia, for more than 25 years before being elected as a judge in West Virginia's Twenty-Third Judicial Circuit. He serves as the Supervising Judge of Jefferson County and its Drug Treatment Court Judge.
He is a member of the West Virginia Judicial Association.
