Boulder Police Launch New Traffic SBI/Fatality Dashboard

BOULDER, Colo. - The Boulder Police Department is proud to announce the creation of a new dashboard designed to help keep the community informed about traffic crashes that involve deaths and serious bodily injury.

The new dashboard, a collaborative effort created by the city's Innovation and Technology and Police departments, shows the community:

  • when and where the crash occurred,
  • what type of drivers/operators were involved,
  • a brief description of what happened,
  • the weather conditions,
  • if tickets or charges were filed and,
  • the current case status.

Boulder Police will continue to update the case statuses with new information moving forward with the goal of increasing transparency in the community. This new dashboard will focus on the most serious of crashes and will supplement our current overall Traffic Crashes dashboard. This dashboard is a work in progress, and we look forward to receiving community feedback as we move forward.

You can find the dashboard with our other public safety-related data on our website: https://bouldercolorado.gov/crime-dashboard

"The community has told us that while they appreciate all the information we release when a traffic-related crash first occurs, they want to know what happens as the investigation moves forward and once a case concludes. We think this dashboard will give them the information they want without compromising an active investigation or prosecution from the District Attorney's Office," Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn said.

"One traffic death or serious bodily injury crash is one too many and our Traffic and Patrol teams work diligently to both prevent and investigate crashes in the city. I hope this increased information will help the community be more aware of their surroundings as they walk, run, ride and drive in our great city."
