On 24 November 2023, the Amsterdam Centre for Migration and Refugee Law (ACMRL) at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, in partnership with the UN Committee on Migrant Workers (CMW), hosted an International Roundtable on Global Migration Law in the EU. The event explored the relationship between the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) and the International Convention on Migrant Workers (CMW) and their implications for European migration law.

Key themes included:

  1. Access to basic services for migrants.
  2. Regular pathways for migration.
  3. Decent work conditions.
  4. Endorsement and ratification challenges of the Compact and the Convention by EU Member States.

The Roundtable, attended by over 30 representatives from governments, civil society, academia, and international organizations, generated significant insights and actionable recommendations.
