A Good Neighbor, New Brunswick is There

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (September 10, 2024) - Mayor Jim Cahill recently helped kick off the Good Neighbor Program, a community outreach initiative aimed at fostering positive interactions between Rutgers University students and local residents.

The program involves 25 teams of volunteers visiting approximately 1,000 off-campus student residences in the 5th and 6th wards near the College Avenue Campus, and the 2nd ward, near the Cook/Douglass campuses. These teams distribute the Good Neighbor Guide, a resource containing information on local codes, ordinances, resources, and tips for being a responsible neighbor.

The Good Neighbor Guide also provides essential information about the community, including local amenities, transportation options, and emergency contact numbers. Additionally, a free ice cream truck recently stationed behind the student center offered a sweet treat while distributing the guide.

Mayor Cahill thanked the volunteers for their dedication and commitment to strengthening the relationship between the university and the community. "This program is a valuable tool for fostering understanding and cooperation between students and residents," he said.

By providing students with essential information and resources, the Good Neighbor Program aims to create a more harmonious and welcoming living environment for everyone in New Brunswick.
