15th Annual Lifelong Learning Extravaganza (L3X) Runs Sept. 9-27

July 30, 2024

Fall in Tallahassee ushers in a season of learning, including for active adults. The City of Tallahassee is proud to announce the return in September of the Tallahassee Senior Center's Lifelong Learning Extravaganza. L3X ushers in its 15th year with a robust month of classes, tours, workshops, recreational activities, field trips and entertainment. The program runs Sept. 9-27 and offers unique educational opportunities for anyone 18 years of age and older.

The public is invited to learn more about L3X at preview parties on Monday, Aug. 12, from 10-11:30 a.m. and Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 5:30-7 p.m., at the Tallahassee Senior Center, 1400 N. Monroe Street. Attendees will be able to pick up a course catalog, meet instructors and enjoy refreshments. While the preview parties provide an overview of the L3X curriculum, they are not required for participation.

"We are offering some exciting new programs this year, along with some of our old favorites," said Lifelong Learning Coordinator Maureen Haberfeld. "Most are in person, a few are virtual, and some are hybrid (in-person and virtual)."

With more than 50classes offered, participants can eXplore, eXamine and eXperience topics such as the Seacrest Wolf Preserve tour in Chipley, Night Skies, Artists of the Harlem Renaissance and the Florida Geological Survey Tour. There's something for everyone - art, music, culture, science, technology, food and drink, history, literature and more. L3X wraps up with a luncheon on Friday, Sept. 27, with award-winning author and photographer Doug Alderson as featured speaker. Alderson is a Tallahassee-Leon County Bicentennial content provider for Visit Tallahassee and Chair of the Bicentennial History Task Force.

L3X programs are held at various times of the day, including several in the evening to accommodate those who work during the day. While there are a couple free offerings, most L3X classes and tours range from $7 to around $60. Full payment is required with registration, and there will be no refunds unless an activity is canceled. Early registration is encouraged since many classes fill quickly. Registration for Tallahassee Senior Center Foundation members opens Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 8 a.m. General registration opens Friday, Aug. 16, at 8 a.m. Classes begin on Tuesday, Sept. 5. To view the course catalog and register online, visit www.TallahasseeSeniorFoundation.org/L3X, beginning Monday, Aug. 12, at 10 a.m.

L3X is presented by Tallahassee Senior Services and Tallahassee Senior Center & Foundation, in partnership with Audiology Associates of North Florida, a Division of Tallahassee Ear, Nose & Throat. To learn more about L3X, email [email protected] or call 850-891-4033.
