ALAMOGORDO, NM - Visitors to White Sands National Park can now purchase digital seven-day entrance passes and the White Sands annual pass online. The park has joined with other public land sites in providing digital passes through Recreation.gov to better serve their visitors. Recreation.gov is a reservation system utilized by many federal sites for pass sales, permits, special tours and tickets, and other recreational activities.

Park visitors can visit https://www.recreation.gov/sitepass/white-sands-national-park to purchase their entrance pass at no additional cost. Digital passes can be purchased up to six months in advance of their visit to the park. The fee covers entry during park hours for one vehicle and passengers for seven (7) consecutive days, beginning on the start date they select. Once purchased, digital passes are emailed and can be used immediately, stored on a personal device, or printed for future use. Due to connectivity challenges at White Sands, visitors are encouraged to purchase their passes and print them out or download them onto their mobile device before arriving at the park.

"We are pleased to offer this new convenience to our visitors," said Superintendent Marie Frias Sauter. "This digital pass technology will allow people to save some time at the entrance station and reduce long lines by purchasing a pass in advance."

The digital passes provide an alternative to the traditional in-person purchase method. Visitors to the park will now have the option to purchase an online digital pass or to purchase a hard copy pass at the park's entrance station. The digital passes also provide an opportunity for visitors to easily obtain their park admission when park staff are not present. Digital pass instructions will be posted at park's entrance station.Other passes not sold through Recreation.gov can be obtained online at https://store.usgs.gov/recreational-passes.

Many other public lands currently provide electronic passes and permits through Recreation.gov including Arches, Big Bend, and Grand Canyon National Parks, Bandelier National Monument, Chaco Culture National Historic Park and many more.
