STATEMENT: Michigan Dems Chair Celebrates State Supreme Court Decision, Highlights Importance of Court Races

LANSING - Today, the Michigan Supreme Court ruled that the Republican-led tactic to overthrow the will of the voters in 2018 was unconstitutional. With this historic win for working Michiganders across the state, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party Lavora Barnes released the following statement:

"This ruling makes it clear - Republicans in the legislature have no business overthrowing the will of the voters. Decisions like these underscore how impactful our state Supreme Court is - and they remind us of the importance of electing judges who will uphold our democracy. Justice Kyra Harris Bolden was one of the four justices in this majority opinion, and she is on the ballot this November.

"It is more important than ever that we work to keep Justice Kyra Harris Bolden on the bench and elect Kimberly Ann Thomas to protect our rights and our voices. The state Supreme Court is on the line this November, and a conservative majority would likely have no problem upholding the next dangerous MAGA Republican tactic to undermine the voters."
