Washington and Lee University's Staniar Gallery is pleased to present "Foveal Relay," a solo exhibition of experimental photography works by artist Bridget Conn. The exhibition will be on view in Lykes Atrium in Wilson Hall from Sept. 5 through Oct. 18, 2024. Conn will also give a public artist's talk on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 5:30 p.m. in Wilson Hall, room 2018.

The exhibition and artist talk are free and open to the public.

Conn is a photographic artist who explores the potential of photography as a chemical and physical medium through the creation of chemigrams. She investigates the boundaries of photography through prints, wall installations and sculptural works, and her art explores themes of societal struggles, awe and wonder, challenges in communication, and the importance of making and admitting mistakes. The works featured in "Foveal Relay" deal with mindfulness, sensory engagement, exploring natural environments, refocusing vision and reconfiguring priorities.

Conn's work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, with recent shows at The Halide Project (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), the Center for Fine Art Photography (Fort Collins, Colorado), the Griffin Museum of Photography (Winchester, Massachusetts), the Chiang Mai Photography Festival (Thailand), and the Institute of Photographic Studies of Catalonia (Spain). Her work has been featured in numerous publications including Lenscratch, The Hand Magazine, Exposure Magazine, Aeonian Magazine and Focal Plan Journal. Conn is also the founder and former director of The Asheville Darkroom in Asheville, North Carolina.

Conn received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Tulane University and holds an MFA from the University of Georgia.
